The Preparation of Flower Tea

Odds are that if you’re reading this article, you have an interest in flowering tea (which is also often referred to as blooming tea). Who can blame you? I’ll never forget the first time I saw flowering tea being prepared. I’d like to share some of the basic procedures you’ll need to follow to prepare flowering tea at home. Let’s start by talking about what you’ll need in the way of equipment and ingredients, and along the way I’ll share some tips that I’ve found to be useful during the preparation process.

Here is some of the equipment and ingredients you’ll need:

1) An empty glass pitcher.
2) Clear serving tea cups.
3) Stove or microwave.
4) Heat source.
5) Container for heating water.
5) Water.
6) Tea blossom you’d like to enjoy.

Start by placing your tea blossom in the empty glass pitcher. Next, begin heating water. It’s important that you allow the water to boil. I’ve found that the ideal scenario is one in which you cover a pot that’s filled with water, and allow it to boil for approximately 20 to 25 minutes on your stove. This will help remove impurities within the water and give it a clean purified taste.

Once the hot water is ready, gently pour it into the empty glass pitcher that you previously placed the tea blossom in. Make sure to fill the glass pitcher to the top. A common mistake that I’ve made in the past is to only add a little bit of water, wait for a few minutes, and the continue adding more. You’re going to want to smoothly and gently fill the entire glass container to the top in one swift motion.

Allow the tea blossom to steep in the hot water for two or three minutes. You’ll slowly start to see the blossom move around and unfurl into an amazingly beautiful flower. You really need to see this to believe it — it’s one of the most incredibly things that you’ll see.

After you see that the tea blossom has unfurled completely, it’s ready to be served and enjoyed. You can re-fill the glass container a few times, but I recommend not doing so more than two times. Why? Each time you refill the container, the taste of the tea becomes slightly more bitter. By the time you fill the glass container for a third time, the taste of the tea will become markedly more bitter. Your experience may vary depending on the type of flowering tea you choose to use.

Finally, when serving the tea, I like using clear serving tea cups. This adds an artistic flair to the entire presentation given the fact that we’re using a clear serving pitcher.

That’s how you prepare flowering tea. I really think that you should consider serving some the next time you have some guests over. It’s a visually amazing performance and people will remember the experience for a long time. Not only will you be providing your guests with extremely nice tasting tea, but you will also be showing them something they don’t often see — a tea blossom that blooms!
